New year, new drama is happening at local Target stores around the United States. With the romantic holiday coming up, Stanley decided to come out with a Valentine’s Day color for the cups. The Valentine’s Day cups are a matte pink and red with hearts. There are and they are different sizes for the water bottle with the most popular being 40 oz.
Some people at Overland High School had to say how they felt about this crazy event and whether it was worth it.
Demeri Scott-Smith shares “People do not have to act crazy over a cup.” She continues, “I could never be a part of a big madness like that, I cannot afford it, that is for sure.” Scott-Smith believes, “To buy a Stanley Cup, it would have to be in a blue color wave; other than that, Stanley’s are not interesting.”
Many people are going crazy as people fight each other for Stanley’s. In many news articles, people are reselling them, hitting people, and hiding them to buy later. Over Valentine’s day Stanley, one video shows a person getting hit with a hefty cup.
Another junior student at Overland, Adhieu Redgebol, says that she feels the cups are too overrated. “Stanley cups have been out since 2016. Why are they acting like this over them now?” she says. “I could not be a part of the riot and that the prices for the cups are wild due to inflation. For Stanley to get her money, they must come out with a silver/chrome color.”
Stanley was a company that originally appealed to blue collar workers. Individuals who engage in manual labor such as construction. Specifically, Stanley’s were designed for coffee and had neutral colors such a black or gray. With the recent “Stanley madness,” the company began to appeal outside neutral colors to brighter colors. Stanley has diversify their cups as well through releasing “Lunar year” line as well.
and Wales.
Even with the craze over Stanley’s, the company has a fair share of competitors such as Hydro flask
Sophomore, Triniti Johnson, “People should buy a hydro flask. I do not need that expensive water bottle,” she says. “It is too expensive, why would people buy a $50 to $80 water bottle?”
After interviewing, the Stanley cups are too expensive and overhyped. They do not need to be paid more attention to and the madness stopped. If Stanley comes out with another holiday color, people’s hype will be 10 times worse.
